Battle of the Books

Every year the Ventura County Office of Education puts on the Battle of the Books.  In this trivia-style competition, students in grades 3rd-5th and 6th-8th answer questions about books they have read from the VCOE Battle of the Books list. Last year Las Colinas took 1st place!

To be eligible for the team, students must:

• Be able to compete on April 27 and 28, 2027

• Attend weekly after-school practices after winter break

• Commit to studying for a minimum of 5 hours per week

• And score within the top 7 on the tryout test on December 11th!

The four books that will be included in the tryout test are:

1. All the Blues in the Sky by Renee Watson

2. Heroes: A Novel of Pearl Harbor by Alan Gratz

3. Hoops by Matt Tavares

4. You are Here: Connecting Flights by Ellen Oh, Linda Sue Park, et al.

Copies of the above are available at the Camarillo Library and limited copies are also available to borrow from the Makerspace. 

   The Tryout Test will be during your lunch period on December 11th in Room A2. Bring your lunch and be prompt!
